It was such a privilege and a pleasure to meet so many involved parents at the Dream Big Conference on October 28th. It was a reminder of how important the school-parent relationship is to the success and well-being of our students and to the collective promotion of a love for learning.
Schools rely on parents as valuable partners in the cognitive and socio-emotional education of their students. As a principal, I have access to many resources so the better I know your child through you, the more your child will benefit from those resources. Parents know their children better than anyone. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with.
Dream Big
All children have hopes and dreams. All parents have hopes and dreams for their children. Schools want to create an environment where those hopes and dreams are fulfilled. We are invested in your children.
Schools and parents must foster a relationship built on trust. Parents often come to the principal when they have a concern or when their children are struggling. Know you are not alone. I am a principal and I am a parent. It is difficult to separate the two. There is a great deal of joy in being a parent, but it is also hard work and we all need assistance, without judgement. Do not be afraid to ask for support. I have yet to be faced with a problem that did not have a solution.
I am looking forward to continuing the important work we need to do as educators and as parents so that together, we can help our children become more of themselves.
“Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.” – Rita Pearson
