April Update | Learn at Home Kits
Parents Engaged in Education is a charity that is focusing on providing “Learn at Home” kits for children in shelters and in the care of the Children’s Aid or families dependent on our food bank system.
These kits contain curriculum workshops and related materials for individual grade levels. In addition, we are including creative materials and learning games to help improve the mental health stress these children are living with, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
On April 8, 2020, we delivered 200 kits to 2 shelters in Scarborough and a food bank in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto.
Our goal, with the generous donations of those who share the passion with us to support those who are even less fortunate than we during this time, is to produce another 300-500 kits.
The JK-8 kits cost approximately $20. each to produce and the secondary level kits will cost $25.
We added the following flyer (see above image) to each kit:
LEARN AT HOME KIT
Parents Engaged in Education hopes that you find the materials in this Learn at Home kit to be beneficial not only to support learning, but also to provide your child some activities to help reduce the stress of being confined at home.
We encourage you to engage with your child even if you do not know the curriculum they are learning at school. Children learn a lot by playing cards and being creative doing art or solving puzzles with the whole family.
We urge you to have ongoing conversations with your child about their experience and feelings being self-isolated during the COVID-19 crisis. Reach out for support if you think there could be emotional issues that your child could use help managing.
